The National Institute of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency- making important discoveries that improve health and save lives. In order to advance its mission and fulfill a request from Congress, NIH developed the “NIH – Wide Strategic Plan Fiscal Year 2016 – 2020, Turning Discoveries into Health.” This plan outlines a vision to biomedical research to capitalize on new opportunities for scientific exploration and address new challenges for human health. NIH has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather public input on a framework for the 2021-2025 NIH-wide Strategic Plan and will guide NIH’s research efforts over the next five years. The agency will prioritize work in Biomedical and Behavioral Science Research, Scientific Research Capacity, Public Accountability, and Social Responsibility in the Conduct of Science.
