Sumeet Sud shares news of Locust Swarm

Billions of locust have swarmed in East Africa. Parts of Kenya is suffering its worst locust plague in 70 years. Small planes are flying low over the affected areas to spray pesticides. Experts warn that if left unchecked, the number of locust could grow 500 times by June 2020. The finger-length locust swept after heavy rains, decimating crops in some areas and threatening millions of vulnerable people with a hunger crisis. In swarms the size of major cities, the locust have affected other neighboring countries. Until the dryer weather in June, more rain will bring fresh vegetation to fuel further waves of locust breeding. Within hours, the locust can strip a pasture of vegetation. Just after spraying pesticides, the normally bouncing locusts become dozy, slow and die. They lay scattered on the ground, crunching under foot.
